Postal Conumdrum

You know, I am trying to understand what are the differences between the US Postal Service and the Postal Service of Sweden. Let me give you an example. A friend of mine sent me a package by express postal mail. It got a tracking number and all of that good stuff. Look at the level of detail here, behind a LJ cut for your convenience, dear reader....

In this picture, you can clearly see that there is complete information about my package, from the time it left in Atlanta until it arrived at the place where I must now go pick it up. In fact, because I registered to do so, the USPS website sent me an e-mail at every major shipment point. Which if the cargo was precious or very time sensitive, I would care about. In this case, they are my pants and are important because I only have 3 pairs of pants that I feel good in right now.

NOW, let us take a look at the pacage that I sent to someone using express service, Swedish post style. That package also got a tracking number and all of that good stuff...

Now, I know you can read it, so let me translate it for you. Transation = snarf snarf. thanks for calling.

I just can't understand why there is not a greater level of detail for the Swedish website. I think it is because in US Postal Service wants to compete with FedEx and UPS and DHL and the other major shipping companies. Swedish Post has no such desires. They want pastries and coffee and to live a happy balanced life. Not a bad goal at all, but that package I sent from Sweden was actually important. I just hope it gets there soon. Since I can't tell from the website I guess I will never know until someone calls me and tells me that they have got it or that they still don't have it.

Sigh....

Sorry, I'm missing something here - the detail level is if anything more in the Swedish one. The main difference is that the package seems not to have reached anywhere outside Sweden yet. And the USPS version is more succinct.

I know, you are right.

It just surprises me because the Swedes are usually very succint and to the point. But in this case, it's a lot of stuff that I don't care to know. ICA accepted my package. Such as "Åsa lovingly placed it into the cart in the back whilst Sven och Anders drank coffee och äta julskum. Package went to customs, where they looked it at funny, but it was past 17.00 and tonight is bandy finals against those Linköping bastards, so we'll work on it on monday..."

I guess I was just looking for some easy status...and for my package to be there already since it was express.
